A Kitchen in Queens

Recipes and Reviews from a little kitchen in a borough of nyc.
In Ridgewood, queens, there’s not a lot of variety when it comes to food. There are probably 10 pizza places on the main street, 2 sushi restaurants, a Chinese restaurant and a few polish places. I have my favorite pizza spot, but rarely eat out anywhere else.

Today, when I was browsing foodspotting on my phone, a delicious looking thai dish popped up. There used to be a thai restaurant in my neighborhood, but it was terrible and didn’t last longer than 6 months. But this, this wasn’t that place.

I headed to my map, and to my surprise, found a brand new (to me) thai place in my neighborhood within walking/delivery distance. So first, I have to say. OMG foodspotting I love you! Thanks!

So today, I walked there. Thai Village. About a 12 block walk, I decided to check it out for lunch. I ordered Pad Kee Mao since I’m a fan of noodle dishes, and asked for it extra spicy. The woman raised her eyebrows, and then confirmed that she heard me correctly. Yes. Extra spicy. I’m always interested to see if a thai place will “dumb down” the spicy level for westerns and also to see if the flavors still pull through over the spice. They did not dumb it down. It was actually quite nice.

Broad flat noodles with onion, pepper, tomato, chicken and basil, this Pad Kee Mao was sweeter than most that I’ve had, but still fairly flavorful and he heat left a nice consistent burn but wasn’t overpowering. My only complaint is that every once in a while, I would hit a partially cooked noodle.

Regardless, I will be coming back, ordering, and will make this a staple of my neighborhood eating experiences from now on!
