A Kitchen in Queens

Recipes and Reviews from a little kitchen in a borough of nyc.
So what’s the next logic place to go a week after, no wait, 5 days after you return from Las Vegas?  Atlantic City of course!  Not normally my choice of destinations, casinos became a large part of my life for a 2 week period.  Perhaps that’s why its taken me so long to jump back into the blog.  That and some fairly large changes that have happened recently in my life, but we won’t address that now.  Instead, we’ll focus on the positive, and what’s more positive than delicious, desert-like, sweet, not savory crepes for breakfast!
My friend/coworker and I headed to AC to cover the opener to the Real Housewives Live tour.  Yes, you read that right.  But just to clarify, when my friend said, “Do you want to go to Atlantic City to cover The Real Housewives Live kickoff tour?  We can stay there overnight, and work will pay for it.”  I heard, “Do you want to go to Atlantic City, work will pay for it.”  And the obvious answer, since I’ve never been to Atlantic City was yes.
One of my favorite meals is brunch/breakfast, and specifically free hotel breakfasts.  I will wake up at 5AM if I have to just to get a free breakfast, but the Sheraton breakfast was lacking, and didn’t offer much more than stale bagels and cold cereal, so we headed out to the street to find something to eat.  A few blocks later we ended up at Cavo Crepe Cafe.  A cute little corner diner, all the doors/windows were wide open and the smell of baked goods, eggs and bacon wafted from the kitchen.   They had waffles and pancakes, smoothies, and of course, crepes.  After spending a good 10 minutes or so trying to decide wether I wanted a savory or sweet crepe, I gave in to the temptation and ordered the Augustus Crepe.  A Banana, Strawberry and Nutella Crepe, I opted to indulge, but didn’t feel overly guilty because fruit is good for you!  The crepe itself was perfectly thin, but held together nicely.  The Nutella was gooey and oozy and sweet, smothering the strawberries and bananas so that you only tasted a hint of fruit through the hazelnut spread.  I would have had them put a little less Nutella and a tad more fruit if I could do it again, but overall it was delicious, and if I’m ever in AC again, I’ll be sure to return.
