I assume most cooks still keep a recipe book somewhere. Some place where they write down their favorite recipes and store them in a safe place. For me, that place is my gmail. I send links of dishes I want to make to myself and store them in a recipes folder. Then, when I’m itching to do something new, or have an occasion like a party and need some ideas, I just pop open my gmail and start sifting through.
At the Winter Solstice/Festivus party in Colorado, I wanted to make a dessert that was familiar, but different. I had several pumpkin recipes I had marked throughout october, but never got around to making them. This was the perfect opportunity.
Enter: Pumpkin Spice Rice Krispy Treats
The person who came up with this tried several times before perfecting this recipe, and perfect it they did. More than simple pumpkin flavoring, you have a nice mix of nutmeg, allspice and everything you could possibly want for a cold winter day.
My biggest gripe was they they weren’t as orange as I’d expect them to be and so nobody knew they were pumpkin until we told them. This made for a lot of left over rice krispys. Those who ate them loved them, but unfortunately most people didn’t know they weren’t your usual run of the mill rice krispys.
