I’m somewhat new to cooking, and even to eating, at least in comparison to many friends of mine. A very picky eater as a child, I stuck to the basics, fighting off anything that wasn’t a plain noodle or white rice. Spaghetti O’s and hot dogs were pretty much a staple in my diet…until I was in my mid-20s. Yes, that’s right. My mid-20s. My roomates made fun of my “cooking” in college, which mainly consisted of frozen meals and canned goods.
My mother, frequently frustrated with my lack of a well rounded diet, cursed me regularly. ”May your children be pickier eaters than you.” I haven’t had any children yet, but my boyfriend is a much pickier eater than me. He’s a real meat and potatoes kind of guy, and anything green is strictly off limits….at least for now.
I can’t put my finger on exactly when I decided it was time to learn to cook, but I believe it was a series of events, and specific food moments that caused it. My friend Holly’s chicken pot pie, my Aunt Lynne’s Thanksgiving Turkey, My mother’s macaroni and cheese, my Uncle Scott’s perfect au poivre burger, my boyfriend requesting I make tacos for dinner. I guess I just….woke up.
I want to share not only recipes I make, but restaurants I enjoy, and my journey navigating through new (to me) cuisines, and of course I plan on posting photos with all of it, because who doesn’t love a little food porn.
